Groundhog Day Fun Ideas and Traditions

Are you looking for something fun to do with the kids on Groundhog Day?

Begin the day by waking up the children with the song “I’ve Got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher (a nod to the movie Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray). If there’s no school today, stay in your pajamas, put sleeping bags on the ground, eat groundhog pancakes, and drink groundhog hot cocoa, and snuggle in for a movie (Click here for 50+ ideas for Groundhog Day snacks). Try playing shadow tag, making silhouettes or other Groundhog Day crafts, or learning how to make shadow puppets.

Wow! What a list!

Yup, I think we’re in for it this winter. But, time is going fast, lets just hope it keeps going and before we know it, it’ll be spring and summer!

  I do love pajamas 🙂 I think it’s just my desperate attempt to get everyone else to wear pajamas during the day so that I don’t feel so bad about wearing them like a uniform 😉 You can have fun wearing real clothes too!

Hi, Jenn! I’d never heard of shadow tag, but it sounds fun…only how can you prove that you tagged them?
I’ve been following your restful trip to your grandparents 60th anniversary. We had my FIL over one Christmas holiday and he brought the flu. I’d spent time on homemade ravioli’s and other Italian food before he came, but no one could eat. What a memory!

We read the book Groundhog Day by Gail Gibbons. It was very informative and we learned a lot of facts about groundhogs.
